men v. labels

As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and He said to him, "Follow Me." And he rose and followed Him.

not to read too much into it, but i liked this:
what did Jesus see?
a man,
Matthew,
who happened to be sitting at a tax booth.
(it just happened to be his job.)
...who would come when invited.

not a label. it's good see a person, not a label or stereotype, even when that's what they offer to us. labels don't have much potential. hard to talk to labels.  hard to relate to labels without reverting to a stereotype myself. hard to do much of anything with labels except stick them on folders to file away even more evidence of that category later. persons, however...

what do persons do?
eat.
drink.
talk.
laugh.
invite.
cook.
prepare.
clean.
enjoy.
recline.
want.
miss.
need.
forget.
remember.
think.
hurt.
suffer.
heal.
decide.
follow.
